Spring FAQ

Q:  What division is my player supposed to be in?

Your player’s “baseball age” can be found using the Little League Age Chart.
Note: "Baseball age" refers to the age of your child on 8/31/2024, not necessarily their current age.
The system will automatically provide you with the correct division for your child based off the birthday you provided in the system.

Q: How does WHLL create Leagues within age groups?

With older players, evaluations will be used to divide players into different leagues based on skill levels. Every player will make a team.

Q:  Can baseball players “play down” a division?

We take very seriously the well-being of the players at Western Hills Little League, and we do understand that all players' abilities do not progress at the same speed. While it is our desire to see our players move through the various divisions at Western Hills as per their Little League age, there are rare occasions when it is clear that for safety reasons this is not in the best interest of the individual child. We believe that objectively evaluating the player's skill level relative to their Little League peers is an important part of the decision-making process, and so require that all players of a certain age participate in evaluations as per the standard WHLL and Little League Official guidelines. If after tryouts are completed it is determined that there is a meaningful safety risk associated with the player staying in the division with his Little League peers, WHLL will work with the families involved to find an alternative divisional placement if one exists. A player being old for his grade, does not constitute playing down a division so that he may play with his classmate. Baseball players must play with their AGE regardless of their grade.

Q:  How much does it cost to play?

Registration fees for Spring 2024 are as follows:

Tball : $225
CP: $315
MP7: $315
LL Age 8 & 9: $325
LL Age 10 & 11 & 12: $425

Q: How do I request a team/coach?

Requests to play with friends are considered only in the t-ball, coach pitch and MP7 divisions. Please email info@whll.org your request along with a copy of your completed registration. There are no “friend requests” or “coach requests” in WHLL after the age of 7.

Q:  What gear/equipment will I need?

WHLL will provide a WHLL cap and jersey. Players are responsible for providing their own pants, shoes, glove, bat and batting helmet with face guard. Coaches will specify sock and belt color.

Q:  What type of bat is required for WHLL?

USA bats are required.

Q: Can I sign up to be a Coach? Or sign my spouse up to coach?

Yes!  Please check the appropriate box(es) during the registration process and you will be contacted.

****If you want to coach, attendance at age appropriate evaluations is required and you must submit a complete evaluation form.  This is a 2 day commitment and is required.

******Please note, not everyone who signs up to coach will ultimately be named as a head coach.  The Board of Directors determines the final selection of coaches.

Q: Can I get a refund if I don’t like the Division or the team my child was drafted to?

No.  WHLL does not grant refunds under any situation unless approved by the Board of Directors.

Q. When will we practice and what days will we have games?

Major League: Games are played Monday through Friday (no weekend games in the Major League).  Generally there are two games a week + one practice per week.

Minor League Triple-AAA Division: Games are played Monday through Friday (no weekend games in Triple-AAA).  Generally there are two games a week + one practice per week.

Minor League Double-AA, Single-A, Modified Kid Pitch and Machine Pitch Divisions (7 and 8): Games will be played Monday through Saturday. Generally there are two games a week + one practice.

T-Ball & Coach Pitch: Games are played on Saturday.  There is one game a week + one practice per week.

***Practices for all divisions are held on a day and time at the head coach’s discretion and can be held on the weekend.

Q: Can I get a refund if the practice day/time or our game schedule does not work for us?

No.

Q. When will I hear something after try-outs?

Please Be patient with us. Our team of volunteers require nearly 2-3 weeks to finish evaluations, name coaches, conduct drafts, finish schedules, and contact parents.

*****Do not expect to hear from your coach before Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

Q: Is there opportunity for more baseball after the regular season ends?

Yes, for some age groups.
**Please note the following is a change from previous years.

City Tournament Team: WHLL offers players ages 8-12 the opportunity to sign up for a City Tournament team which runs from May 20 until approximately June 15.

****The City Tournament team is not based on skill and any player may elect to participate.

All-Star Teams: The most advanced players ages 8-12 will be selected by the coaches to three separate (age appropriate) “All-Star Teams” (referred to by Little League as the “Tournament Team”).  This is different from the “City Tournament” team. ***The All-Star Tournament has three progressive levels (District, Sectionals, and State) with the District tournament running through approximately June 20 or later.  If a WHLL team wins District, it advances to Sectionals (early July) and, if they win there, on to the State Tournament which runs into late July, etc.

******Do not sign up for camp, other sports, schedule family vacation before July 4 if your player is a possible candidate for the All-Star team.

Q: How do I volunteer to help at evaluations on Jan 27th?
