WESTERN HILLS’ ROSS OHLENDORF

Western Hills alumnus Ross Ohlendorf is a Major League Baseball starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is known for his hard-biting sinker. He can hit 97 mph with a two-seam sinking fastball, and he's working to improve his developing changeup, slider, and breaking ball.  Ohlendorf, is a graduate of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin and Princeton University, is one of three Western Hills players currently playing in the Major Leagues, joining Matt Belisle (Colorado Rockies) and Huston Street (Colorado Rockies).

WESTERN HILLS’ HUSTON STREET

Closer Huston Street is the top relief pitcher for the Colorado Rockies and was named the AL Rookie of the Year for the 2005 Major League Baseball season. Street led major league rookies with 23 saves and set an Oakland rookie record for saves, breaking the mark of 12 set by Rollie Fingers in 1969. Street was formerly an All-American at the University of Texas and a member of the 2002 UT National Championship team (named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2002 College World Series).

WESTERN HILLS’ MATT BELISLE

A second-round draft pick of the Atlanta Braves out of McCallum High, Matt Belisle opened the 2005 season as a member of the Cincinnati Reds’ pitching staff.  On January 14, 2009 Matt signed with the Colorado Rockies.

WESTERN HILLS WINS DISTRICT 11 

[July 2005] – The Western Hills Red team, coached by Will Coates, went undefeated in the District 11 Major League tournament to capture the district crown.  In the final game, Western Hills defeated Northwest Little League 8-4 on July 13th, 2005.  This was the third time in four years that Western Hills won the district tournament and advanced to the sectional.  Check the team’s results by clicking here.


FIVE WESTERN HILLS ALUMNI REACH OMAHA IN 2005

[July 2005] – It was a Western Hills reunion at the 2005 College World Series as five Western Hills alumni played on teams that reached that year’s College World Series: Reid Brees (Baylor), Will Crouch (UT–also all-tournament team), Andy Reese (UT), Jordon Street (UT), and Justin Street (UT).
