Coach Pitch

Spring 2010

Coach Pitch

This division is for player who will be age 6 or 7 on April 30, 20101.  To the greatest extent possible teams are by player selection requests.

The purpose of this division is to continue teaching players about baseball concepts and work on improvement of basic skills, including hitting, throwing, catching and fielding the ball.  At the CP level we want to see players begin to work more as a team.  In other words a player fields the ball and tries to throw it to another player rather than always attempting to chase a player down to make the tag.

Teams will play two games a week.  One game will be played on a week day and the other will be played on Saturday.  Games will last about an hour or an hour and 30 minuets.  Every player will bat every inning.  The player’s coach will pitch to him.  If after six pitches the player has not hit a fair ball, then the player will hit off the tee.  Score is not kept and no season standings are kept.  CP games are played with a soft baseball (not as soft as a T-ball) designed for CP play.

Equipment needs are discussed in general information.

Coach Pitch 7 (CP-7)

This division is intended for players who are age 7 on April 30, 20101Younger players will not be allowed to play in this division.  To the greatest extent possible teams are by player selection requests.

Please note that 7 year olds have a choice whether to play in the CP or CP-7 league.  However, as noted above, players younger than seven will not be allowed to play in the CP 7 league.

Like CP, the purpose of CP-7 is to continue teaching players about baseball concept and work on improvement of basic skills, including hitting, throwing, catching and fielding the ball.  At the CP level we want to see players begin to work more as a team.  In other words a player fields the ball and tries to throw it to another player rather than always attempting to chase a player down to make the tag.  Also CP-7 incorporates more of the rules of baseball into the game.

Teams will play two games a week.  One game will be played on a week day and the other will be played on Saturday.  Games will last about an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and 30 minuets.  A player’s coach will pitch to him.  A batter will have five pitches or three strikes to hit a fair ball and a team’s at bat will end at 3 outs or when it scores 5 runs. (Every player may not bat every inning).  On defense a team will field only nine players.  Score is not kept and no season standings are kept.  CP-7 games are played with the hard baseballs.
