Spring 2008
Colt/Palomino serves players ages 15–181,
and participates in Pony Baseball’s Greater
Austin Colt Palomino League. We play teams from
Western Hills and the greater Austin area, generally
ranging from Georgetown to Buda. All players
and teams must commit to playing the citywide
schedule, even if it means, for instance, showing
up in Round Rock at 6pm on a weeknight. Schedulers
try to limit the amount of weeknight travel
for all teams, but participants must know and
accept that some travel will be required.
Residence requirements, unlike Little League,
are more relaxed, and our league is available
to players from a wider area. We also allow
teams made from rosters of pre-selected players.
If a group that wants to register as a team,
it should identify one coach or player as the
contact, and each registration of a player from
that group should reference the contact person.
Individual players not associated with a team
are encouraged to register and will be placed
with a team as well. Depending on the number
of registrants, individual registrants may be
assigned to pre-selected teams, and everyone
is expected to handle this situation gracefully.
Rules and the field reflect those of high school
baseball with only minor modifications for recreational
play. The spring season runs from mid March
to mid May. Greater Austin Colt Palomino offers
a summer season from Memorial Day to mid July
after which there is an all star style series
with a Director's tournament and a nationwide
tournament shortly thereafter. Registration
for the summer league will begin April 10.
